Detailed description of Branson Hills Golf Club: Payne Stewart Golf Course

Branson Hills Golf Club, originally named Payne Stewart Golf Club, is a Semi-Private 18-hole golf course located in Branson, Missouri.

The golf course first opend for play in 2008. The course was designed by Bobby Clampett and Chuck Smith.

Branson Hills Golf Club is located in in a residential development - Branson Hills. Each of the 18 holes at this, par 72 course is interwoven with a story of Payne Stewart's life and golfing experiences throughout his career. Branson Hills Golf Club is a tribute course honoring the life and legacy of golf legend Payne Stewart.

The semi-private open to the public golf course and clubhouse span some 1,200 acres in a gated and age-restricted exclusive neighborhood with condos, golf villas, apartments, and a retail center. Venerable oaks march across the broad sweep of the hills in Branson Missouri, as creeks tumble over rocky outcroppings. The Clubhouse is beautiful.

The course has a lot of risk/reward challenges. Some of the holes are modeled after holes where Stewart or one of his buddies did something memorable, or one of his favorite places. # 3, "Payne's Pit," has a huge greenside bunker recalling the golf legend's final hole at the Byron Nelson Classic in 1985 when he lost his lead by skulling his shot and making a double bogey leading to a playoff which he lost. #4 "Albatross," commemorates Payne's only double-eagle on Spyglass Hill. The fairways are zoysia, the rough is fescue and the greens will be fast, A-4 bentgrass with wildflowers adorning the hills and slopes off the fairways. The challenging green complexes and rolling approaches are a golfer's dream with many interesting shots from around the green.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,324 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,325 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 11, a par-5 that plays to 599 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 148 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 9, a 432 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Branson Hills Golf Club is # 13, a 419 yard par-3.

This course is long and difficult. Several blind tee shots and many dog-legs where you can only see the 150 yd pole but not the green. Having never played the course, it was hard to find an even lie at times especially when you didn't know the fairway. A bit expensive compared to other courses in the area, but I would play again.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

too expensive, layout not fair, draw needed with cut lie and visa versa. Slow play because of below average players trying to play a very difficult course.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby

THe course has a fantastic layout...many tee boxes so the length is on par with the players abilities. Very good course with great views and beautiful clubhouse and grill area.
